Challenges To Letting God Embrace Us

Any area in which we still have fear that God will not show up and be who He says in Scripture that He is to us, shows an absence of understanding God’s love and embrace in that area of our life. The goal is not “I had a one-time experience with God coming through for me, but then it all got resolved.” No, that’s not how it works. Reality is we go through different seasons in life, and when pressure pushes on us, this is an invitation for the embrace of God to meet us again and again, quenching our doubts and fears because the embrace of God in ever-changing, ever-growing ways is the Father’s goal for us. This is the embrace of God!

When I was going through this passage years ago, the Lord said, “Brian, here’s what will keep you from falling. If you let Me love you with My continual embrace.” But how do we recognize it when the Lord is putting His arms around us? Well, here’s a big one. When we are worshipping, be sensitive to a sense of the peace and presence of the Lord?

Do you know what this is when it happens? This is the same experience Jesus had at His baptism. The Holy Spirit manifests His presence, not just to give us information, not just to show us that we’re part of God’s family (though that is very important). But when this happens it is God literally running among us, in the midst of the congregation, embracing us! Let’s make it really simple. It’s God actually hugging us and drawing us close to His heart.
