There was a lady named Phoebe Palmer. Have any of you ever heard of her? Ah, there are some of the neat people I’m going to share with you. If you want to go to study a really neat lady, she affected the American church right before the Civil War, and she was a healing minister and a holiness preacher. Her name was Phoebe Palmer.
She actually started launching the healing ministry in the United States around 1860s, and here is what she would say. And when she said it, the Lord just, again, gave me assurance that what she said was absolutely true. She said she’d pray for sick people until God gave them an assurance that He was going to heal them.
After that, she didn’t care what was going on with the situation. She didn’t care what happened if they got worse or they got better, or whatever. She said the assurance was given in her heart; she is stuck with it until the Lord gave it to her.
That’s the assurance of things hoped for, right?
Alright. Now, let’s look at another word that they used: trust. Now remember, you don’t have trust as something in your soul. Somehow, your soul says, “Oh, okay I need to trust the Lord.” If you always see faith as something you’re supposed to do, then you’re going to miss what faith is.
God creates trust in you. How did you accept Jesus? God comes among you, and He reveals Himself to you. I mean, how hard is it to accept somebody when they’re right there in your face?
When He goes hey, how would you like this? That’s real hard too, isn’t it? Yes. What is He doing? He puts some assurance in your heart. He creates trust. He causes you to reach out for Him.
