This question is more than a theological debate. If healing is part of the ministry of Jesus—and if He has called Does Jesus Still Heal Today? The Kingdom of God Is Still Advancing

His followers to continue His work—then we need to understand both why we pray for healing and how we can minister to people effectively.

Healing is not merely an isolated spiritual gift. It is one of the ways God reveals the rule and reign of His kingdom.

A Kingdom That Will Never End

In Daniel 2:44, the prophet describes a kingdom established by God that will never be destroyed. Unlike earthly kingdoms, it will endure forever.

Centuries later, Jesus entered Galilee announcing:

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
—Mark 1:15

Jesus was declaring that the kingdom Daniel had seen was now entering human history. The King had arrived.

This kingdom would not advance through human violence or political domination. It would advance as God transformed hearts, forgave sin, delivered people from darkness, and restored what the enemy had damaged.

Healing was part of that advance.

Jesus Demonstrated the Kingdom

Jesus didn’t simply preach ideas about God’s kingdom. He demonstrated its presence.

He healed the sick, drove out demons, restored broken people, and trained His disciples to do the same. He sent out the twelve apostles, then the seventy, giving them practical experience in proclaiming and demonstrating the kingdom.

Before returning to the Father, Jesus commissioned His followers to make disciples of all nations and teach them to obey everything He had commanded (Matthew 28:18–20).

Think about what that means.

Jesus trained His disciples to preach the gospel, minister healing, confront darkness, and care for people under the direction of the Holy Spirit. Those disciples were then told to teach others what they had learned.

The ministry of Jesus was meant to continue through His people.

God Still Intervenes

The New Testament uses two important ideas when speaking about time. Chronos describes the ordinary progression of time—one moment following another. Kairos describes an appointed or strategic moment in which God intervenes to accomplish His purpose.

The arrival of Jesus was a kairos moment. God stepped into human history to fulfill His promises and begin something that would transform the world.

God still intervenes in people’s lives today.

We should never reduce healing ministry to a technique or formula. We listen to the Holy Spirit, grow in compassion, study the ministry of Jesus, and learn how to pray for people with humility and faith. We leave the results with God, but we don’t allow disappointment or uncertainty to keep us from obeying Him.

Equipped to Continue His Work

The kingdom of God is still among us. Jesus is still ruling and reigning, and He continues to work through His church.

That leaves us with a practical question: How do we participate?

We learn. We practice. We pray for people. We grow in discernment. We receive correction without condemnation, and we refuse to make ministry about our performance. Healing flows from the compassion and authority of Jesus—not from our ability to impress anyone.

This is an invitation to become equipped.

As we study the biblical foundations of healing and explore practical models of ministry, our goal is not simply to collect more information. It is to become people who recognize what Jesus is doing and faithfully join Him.

The kingdom is still advancing.

And Jesus is still inviting ordinary believers like us to participate.
