Weekly teaching

Why don’t I hear God like other Christians?

When hearing God seems natural for everyone else, it is easy to wonder whether you are missing something. This teaching gives you a peaceful, biblical place to begin—without comparison, pressure, or pretending.

You are not disqualified

God is teaching you relationship, not performance.

The goal is not to sound like someone else. The goal is to learn how the Father draws near to you—and to respond faithfully.

Jesus describes His people as sheep who know His voice (John 10:27). That promise is not an invitation to strain harder. It is an invitation to grow in relationship. We learn to recognize God through Scripture, the character of Jesus, the inward work of the Holy Spirit, wise community, and steady practice.

You may not experience that process the same way another person does. That is not failure. God is forming discernment in you, and discernment grows as we listen humbly, test what we sense, and obey what is clear.

01

Release comparison

Another person’s experience is not the measure of your relationship with God. Let their testimony encourage you without turning it into a standard you must imitate.

02

Return to Scripture

God’s voice will agree with His revealed character and truth. Scripture gives your listening a foundation, language, and healthy boundaries.

03

Practice faithfully

Pay attention, write down what you sense, test it humbly, and take the next clear step. Confidence grows through relationship and practice—not pressure.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about hearing God

Can every Christian learn to recognize God’s voice?

Christians can grow in recognizing the ways God leads through Scripture, the Holy Spirit, the character of Jesus, and wise Christian community. Growth may look different from person to person, so the aim is relationship and faithful discernment rather than comparison.

How can I tell whether a thought is from God or just from me?

Begin by testing it against Scripture and the character of Jesus. Consider whether it produces the fruit of the Spirit, invite mature believers to help you discern it, and hold personal impressions humbly rather than treating them as unquestionable commands.

What should I do when God seems silent?

Silence does not mean rejection. Return to what God has already made clear in Scripture, stay honest in prayer, remain connected to healthy community, and keep taking the next faithful step in front of you.

Does learning to hear God replace reading the Bible?

No. Scripture is the trustworthy foundation for Christian faith and discernment. Any impression, guidance, or prophetic sense should be tested in the light of Scripture and should reflect the character of Jesus.
